Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani on Wednesday said the NATO-Georgia Commission meeting earlier during the day, as part of PM Irakli Kobakhidze’s visit to Brussels, had been “positive”.

In his interview with Imedi TV, Chikovani said the meeting participants had “emphasised that there is a very positive dynamic in terms of cooperation between NATO and Georgia”.

“It was about the reforms that allowed us to raise our convergence and integration processes to a very high level”, he added.

Very important statements were made by the Secretary General of NATO, both at the press conference and during the meeting. It is very important that NATO supports our territorial integrity, and we have specific cooperation mechanisms that are expressed in various specific programs”, the official noted.

Jens Stoltenberg, the NATO Secretary General, on Wednesday highlighted Georgia as a “close NATO partner” and noted the Alliance “fully supported” the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, continuing to call on Russia to “reverse the recognition of Georgian territories as independent states”.
