Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Olivér Várhelyi, the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, on Tuesday reviewed the process of the country’s accession to the EU.
At the meeting, held within the framework of the newly approved PM’s first foreign visit to Brussels, the officials discussed the priorities outlined by the European Commission for Georgia to open accession talks with the EU, with Kobakhidze noting that the country continued to “closely coordinate and cooperate” with EU institutions to implement the EU recommendations.

The PM spoke about the efforts made by the Government in this direction and briefed the EU Commissioner on current events and future plans, the Government Administration said.

Following the European Commission's annual enlargement report, Georgia developed “a specific action plan” in November 2023 to fulfil the bloc’s recommendations, Kobakhidze said, stressing the implementation process was “actively underway”.

The conversation also touched on the cooperation between Georgia and the EU in different directions, with the Georgian PM extending his gratitude to Várhelyi for his support to the country on its European integration path.
The sides focused on security challenges in the Black Sea region and the world while discussing the ways to solve the existing challenges.
