Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday highlighted his Government’s “ambitious plans” regarding Georgia’s integration into the European Union, noting in 2030 Georgia would be “more than ready” to become a member of the bloc.
In his comments at the joint press briefing with Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Oliver Varhelyi, the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Kobakhidze pointed out Georgia’s commitment to the European integration agenda.
He also noted he “had a very fruitful meeting” with Borrell and Varhelyi in Brussels earlier today, where the officials had discussed the political processes in Georgia, as well as the different directions of cooperation, adding “these meetings give us really good ground for optimism that Georgia’s EU integration process will be further accelerated”.
We had very friendly meetings and discussions. We touched on all topics [including] the agenda of reforms, economic cooperation, as well as issues of peaceful conflict resolution, [...] there is an interest in deepening cooperation”, the PM said.
The Georgian delegation led by Kobakhidze, who is on his first official visit to Brussels as the country’s PM, has recently held meetings of the Association Council with the EU.
