Georgia's accession to the European Union was discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Kobakhidze emphasised the importance of his country receiving the EU membership candidate status in December, and noted the outcome was the result of “intensive efforts” and steps taken by the Government, the Government Administration said.
He stressed the Government continued to “work actively” to move to the next stage of integration and open accession talks. He also reviewed the steps already taken by the Government for the purpose and upcoming stages.
The parties also discussed the current situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia and emphasised the need for Russia to fulfil the EU-mediated ceasefire agreement of 2008.
