Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday said “statements about the second front” of the war in Ukraine, made by Ukrainian Government officials, were “very sad”, but added his Government was “strongly supporting” the country “politically”.

Kobakhidze highlighted the humanitarian assistance provided to Ukraine by the Georgian Government.

Unfortunately, some statements were made about the second front coming from Ukrainian Government officials [namely the] Secretary of the Security Council [and] the Advisor to the President - these statements were very sad, although we strongly believe in Ukraine and strongly support the country politically”, he said.

“We have also provided strong humanitarian aid for Ukraine. We have special, friendly relations with the Ukrainian people. This is the attitude of the Georgian people toward the Ukrainian people. As for the support of Ukraine, we are involved in this process”, the Government head continued.

Kobakhidze also said his Government did not impose sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine and had “very strong arguments for this”, before stressing his country was not being used to circumvent the international sanctions on the Kremlin.
