The Roads Department of Georgia on Wednesday announced the renovation of an 18-km section of the Chokhatauri-Bakhmaro highway leading to Bakhmaro, the highest alpine ski destination in western Georgia’s Guria region, had been completed.
The Department said the state budget had provided ₾19.2 million ($7.1mln) for renovation works that involved construction of a new asphalt and concrete surface, metal water pipes, reinforced concrete and retaining wall systems.
Railings were also added to improve road safety, carriageways were marked, while road signs and horizontal road markings were added.
The body said traffic had become “safer and more comfortable” after a reordering of infrastructure on the rehabilitation section while travel time had been reduced.
