Tbilisi City Hall will launch a renovation of Rustaveli Avenue, one of the major streets of Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, with reconstruction of old buildings and installation of new street infrastructure, Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced on Wednesday.
Set to start next year and run for about two years, the project will be implemented by the Tbilisi Development Fund, with old buildings to be renovated in the first stage.
Renovation of damaged roofs, facades, gutters and structural parts of buildings is planned within the project, Kaladze said.
The new infrastructure will include decorative lighting of “modern standards” and new communication networks on facades of buildings.
The official also said buildings with the status of cultural heritage monument would be preserved with the involvement of experts.
Road and underground infrastructure will also be renovated in the final stage of the project, with Kaladze highlighting land collapse as one of the causes for damage caused to communications infrastructure adjacent to the Avenue.
Deputy Mayor Irakli Khmaladze said ₾90 million ($33,370,411) would be spent on the project.
