Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze on Thursday announced the reopening of the Tsereteli Avenue in Tbilisi for both private and public transport traffic following nearly nine months of renovation works on the major street.
Kaladze said “all types” of underground communications, including water pipes, drainage and gas supply networks, had been replaced during the renovation works.
He said the placement of new outdoor lighting had been completed on one side of the avenue, with the works on the other side still ongoing, and noted setting up of “safety islands” for pedestrians on the street was “in the final stage” and would be followed by construction of public transport waiting areas.

Tbilisi City Hall will launch a renovation of Rustaveli Avenue, one of the major streets of Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, with reconstruction of old buildings and installation of new street infrastructure, Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced on Wednesday.
The underground constructions have been discovered during the ongoing rehabilitation works on Tsereteli Avenue in the vicinity of the Church of Christmas Mary in central Tbilisi, which, according to specialists, represent the tombs of the 19th century, the Tbilisi City Hall said on Sunday.
