Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday expressed his appreciation for the “love of the country” and “value of peace” appreciated by the people of the western Guria region, while attending a traditional horse race in the resort town of Bakhmaro.
I am very glad that today I attended the horse race, which has a centuries-old tradition, and I would also like to congratulate the winners of today's horse race”, Kobakhidze said.
It is very precious to me to be here with you today on the Transfiguration day [marked by the Orthodox Christian parish]”, he told locals at the event, where he was present with members of the Government and local authorities.
Every August 19, Gurians and their guests gather at Bakhmaro resort for the horse race known as "doghi," a tradition that has been ongoing for almost a century. Participants come from all across the region and the country to showcase their skills. The race follows a circuit through the town, with games and celebrations before and after the event.
