Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday highlighted the Georgian national football team’s upcoming debut at the ongoing European Championship in Germany against Turkey by saying the game marked “the day that Georgian football fans have been waiting for 30 years”.
In his video message, Kobakhidze said the game in Dortmund later today would see the “Georgian flag [...] raised and the Georgian anthem [...] played” at the Championship for the first time.
The sense of pride that each of us will feel today is indescribable”, he added.
Today, I believe in our boys just as much as I did three months ago, on March 26. I believed that the boys would put their heart and soul into the game and bring Georgia a historic victory”, he added in reference to the qualifier match against Greece that earned the team their fist-ever spot at the European Championship.
The PM expressed his confidence players of the national team would “put their heart and soul into all three games” of the group stage and would “definitely” qualify for the playoffs of the tournament.
The national team will also play against the Czech Republic on June 22 and Portugal on June 26 in their Group F fixtures.
