Irakli Kobakhidze, the candidate for the position of the Prime Minister of Georgia, on Tuesday sent his condolences after two people died in the Black Sea region of Adjara after a landslide and an avalanche hit the western locality since Monday.
Temur Baramidze, a Junior Inspector of the Keda District Division of the Adjara Police Department, died at his home in the village of Tsoniari after it was hit by a landslide, while a 60-year-old woman whose house was hit by an avalanche in the village of Tkhilvani also became a victim of the natural disaster.
Another individual from the same house was evacuated following the avalanche, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
Unfortunately, there has been a natural disaster in western Georgia, in Adjara. As I was told, two people died. My condolences to the families”, Kobakhidze said, adding relief works were “actively underway” on site.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs also expressed “deep sorrow” over the death of the two individuals, adding Ministry professionals were present at the site with equipment to ensure “active” relief works.
Strong winds and heavy rainfall also affected other municipalities in western Georgia between Monday and Tuesday, causing damage to buildings, and causing floods and landslides in some areas.
