The “successful” cooperation between Georgia and Germany in both bilateral and multilateral formats was discussed on Friday in a meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the President of Germany.

The meeting highlighted Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration and pointed out the European Union’s “historic” decision in December to grant the country its membership candidate status, the Georgian Government Administration said.

Kobakhidze noted the Georgian Government remained committed to the country's European choice and aimed to open the EU accession talks in the “nearest future”, adding Germany's support in this process had “particular importance”.

The PM emphasised Germany’s role as one of the “biggest supporters” in institutional and socioeconomic development of Georgia.

The parties also pointed out the security environment in the wider region and the German Government’s “unwavering’ support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, with Kobakhidze extending his gratitude to Steinmeier for his support in this regard.

The Georgian official also made an entry in the Memorabilia Book designated for the Guest of Honour at the Palace of the President.
