Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday discussed “friendly” relations and cooperation between the countries with Tanzila Narbaeva, his counterpart from the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.

Papuashvili, on a visit to the Central Asian region along with a parliamentary delegation, also discussed partnership in culture, tourism and economy with Narbaeva, the Georgian Parliament’s press office said.

Narbaeva noted the “historical” trend of “respect” between the two nations and welcomed the Georgian Government’s “peace-oriented policy”.

Papuashvili emphasised the growing importance of the Middle Corridor, a logistics route connecting Central Asia and China to Europe via the South Caucasus, and said development of its transit and transport potential was in the interest of both countries.

The parties also expressed readiness for further development of cooperation between their legislative bodies.
