Prospects for fostering cooperation between Georgia and Paraguay were discussed on Thursday in a meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and the Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Palacios.
Palacios welcomed the first visit of the Georgian official to the country, the Georgian foreign office said.
“I am grateful to have had an opportunity to meet with the President of Paraguay. We agreed that bilateral relations between our countries are solid, based on common values and principles, and focused on the prospects for fostering ties in the coming years”, Darchiashvili said in a social media message.
The officials emphasised the “common values” underlying the relations between their countries, and expressed their readiness to “intensify” work to strengthen the ties.
The meeting focused on deepening the cooperation in trade and economy, tourism, education and people-to-people ties, with Palacios taking an interest in the regional role of Georgia, and the progress achieved on its European integration path.
Darchiashvili also informed Palacios about the situation in Georgia's Russian-occupied regions.
