The partnership between Georgia and Brazil was discussed on Monday in a meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira, as part of the former's visit to Brazil.

The meeting focused on opportunities for cooperation in trade, economy and other areas, the Georgian foreign office said.

The officials welcomed the visit of the Georgian Foreign Minister to the country “after a long pause” and noted the “special importance” of the trip considering “global processes” and the “important regional role” of the two countries.

Darchiashvili emphasised that partnership with Brazil was “particularly important” for Georgia in both bilateral and regional contexts.

“I once again highlighted that Georgia considers Brazil as a significant partner and friend in the region and welcomed the positive dynamics in our relations”, he said in a social media message.

The meeting noted the Georgian Government was interested in developing ties with Brazil as a “leading economy”.

The officials also highlighted the importance of Georgia due to its transit function connecting Europe and Asia, and “positive dynamics” of its economic development.

Vieira reiterated his strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The top Brazilian diplomat noted that his Georgian counterpart had invited him to visit Georgia, and further added “I will definitely visit Tbilisi”.
