Economy Minister, FM say Georgia, Azerbaijan interested in deepening relations

Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili and Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Saturday evaluated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s first visit to Azerbaijan.

Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili and Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Saturday evaluated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s first visit to Azerbaijan.

In his comments to the media, Davitashvili noted that the prospects of future cooperation in initiating new joint projects had been reviewed during the visit to Azerbaijan, highlighting the existing “mega international projects” between the countries, mainly aimed at energy security.

These are transport and logistics close ties, which become even more important due to the geopolitical situation”, he emphasised, adding the development of the Middle Corridor, a multimodal transport corridor connecting China to Europe through the South Caucasus, was also discussed at the meetings.

The Economy Minister said Azerbaijan was among the top five trade partners of Georgia and added that trade turnover between the two states was increasing each year.

Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili noted that both Georgia and Azerbaijan were interested in deepening and strengthening the existing ties, highlighting “the extraordinary bilateral relations” with Azerbaijan.

At the meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ali Asadov, particular attention was focused on the jointly implemented regional projects, which will ensure the South Caucasus region’s effectiveness in connecting the East to the West, Darchiashvili stressed.

The Georgian delegation, led by the country’s PM, is visiting Azerbaijan today. Earlier Kobakhidze discussed the strategic partnership with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Ali Asadov.
