Georgian, Azerbaijani PMs discuss strategic partnership, “successful cooperation”

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ali Asadov on Saturday discussed the main directions of the strategic partnership, as well as the “successful cooperation” in various fields and multilateral formats, between the countries.

At the meeting, held as part of Kobakhidze’s first official visit to Azerbaijan, Asadov congratulated the Georgian official on his appointment as the PM of Georgia and emphasised the significance of his visit to Baku as the Head of the Government.

The opportunities for further developing trade and economic relations, as well as joint regional projects, were pointed out by the PMs, who also highlighted the importance of the Middle Corridor, a multimodal transport corridor connecting China to Europe through the South Caucasus, the Government Administration said.

The parties stressed the “special role” of the Intergovernmental Economic Commission in the further development of economic cooperation and announced that a meeting of the commission would be held in the near future.

The conversation also touched on the importance of establishing peace and stability in the South Caucasus region, with the PMs emphasising the role of constructive dialogue in this process.

The Georgian PM affirmed his Government’s readiness to continue contributing to the process of ensuring peace and stability in the region.

At the end of the meeting, Kobakhidze invited his Azerbaijani counterpart for an official visit to Georgia.
