Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Victoria Villarruel, the Vice President of Argentina, on Thursday positively assessed the “historical” friendly relations established between the countries during the first democratic republic of Georgia.

At the meeting, held within the framework of Darchiashvili’s visit to Argentina, the officials discussed the growing potential of cooperation in various fields, including parliamentary ties, and expressed readiness to “work actively” to further deepen them.

The sides highlighted the importance of intensifying people-to-people and cultural relations between Georgia and Argentina, the Foreign Ministry said.

The current situation on the European continent and in the Black Sea region, as well as  Georgia’s foreign policy, political aspirations and democratic processes, were reviewed by Darchiashvili and Villarruel at the meeting, where the Argentine Vice President emphasised her country’s “strong support” for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Vice President of Argentina welcomed the visit of the Georgian top diplomat to the country and the South American region in general, emphasising it was a “continuation” of the “intensive dialogue” conducted by Georgia with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean Sea.
