The outgoing Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday said the ruling team had “no other choice” than to “convincingly win” the 2024 parliamentary elections to avoid “war and chaos” in the country.

In his speech at a party congress, Garibashvili claimed the party was the ‘only political force carrying out national interests”.

“Today we face new tasks. We must obtain a convincing victory in the elections in order to continue proper development of our country. I would like to wish [the party] success on this path and express my brotherly support to the Prime Minister candidate, Irakli Kobakhidze”, he told the congress.

Today, Georgia still faces great challenges, there is still a difficult geopolitical situation in the world. Unfortunately, one of the main threats is still the evil force, the [opposition] United National Movement [party], which we all defeated together in 2012. As long as this criminal organisation remains in politics, the threat has not gone anywhere”, the outgoing PM continued.

Garibashvili also told the congress the choice in the elections was “very clear” with Georgian Dream “meaning peace, stability and development”.
