Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili on Wednesday discussed a pilot programme for the introduction of tax incentives, and the second stage of digital economy taxation in the country with representatives of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
The OECD will provide assistance in the implementation of the second phase of Georgia’s digital economy taxation programme, the Finance Ministry said.
The three-day visit of the organisation’s delegation will involve meetings with the Ministry, the Revenue Service, the National Bank as well as with members of the Parliament.
Georgia was one of the first countries to join the OECD’s Base Erosion and Profit Shifting platform - designed to end tax avoidance - and also supported the 2021 statement of the organisation on its two-pillar plan for reforming international tax rules, the Ministry also said in its comments on the visit.
The country’s authorities have also implemented the required base measures for combating tax evasion and creating a “more transparent” tax environment, the body added, pointing out the relevant services were “actively involved” in projects for overcoming “tax challenges” arising from the development of the digital economy.
