Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday said his Government was interested in “further strengthening” partnership and cooperation with Azerbaijan and Central Asian states by saying the ties would “bring more prosperity and stability” to partners.

In his remarks at the ongoing Economic Forum of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia in Baku, Garibashvili highlighted the Programme as a “unique platform” for sectoral cooperation.

He also said the initiative could ensure “stable and sustainable” development in the regions in question.

In a meeting earlier today, Garibashvili and Aliyev reviewed security issues in the region and the wider world and expressed hope for a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia over their long-running conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region “very soon”.

The Georgian official also thanked the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for the invitation as a special guest to the event, and noted the “excellent organisation” of the Forum.
