Reforms implemented in the penitentiary system of Georgia were discussed in a meeting between the Georgian Justice Minister Rati Bregadze and the Hungarian Interior Minister Sándor Pintér on Friday in Hungary, the Georgian Ministry said.
The discussion involved reforms based on “balance between security measures in prisons and well-functioning of resocialisation programmes”, the body added, noting Bregadze also briefed Pintér on Digital University, an education platform for convicts in penitentiary institutions.
A sports management system implemented in the domestic penitentiary, employment of convicts and provision of state services through Justice House offices for inmates were also discussed.
Pintér also received information about a recently launched smaller-size penitentiary facility in the country’s western Ozurgeti municipality of Guria region, and plans for a similar facility in the city of Rustavi next year.
The meeting took place within the joint declaration signed between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and the Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán in October.
