Georgian, Turkish, Azerbaijani defence ministers discuss cooperation, security

Cooperation in regional development and defence and importance of joint military exercises were discussed on Thursday in a meeting between Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze and his Azerbaijani and Turkish colleagues, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov and General Hulusi Akar.

Hosted as part of the joint defence drills between the sides in the Turkish city of Kars, the meeting saw the sides highlight the importance of the exercise, the Georgian Defence Ministry said.

The three leaders said the manoeuvres would bring the defence forces of their countries closer together, strengthen their interoperability and serve the security of the Black Sea region.

The multinational drills started on January 18 and involve forces from 17 countries including Georgia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Germany and Italy. 

It is hosted to ensure cooperation and coordination in joint operations, test the performance of hardware and improve training levels of troops in quartering, deployment and food servicing in winter conditions, the Ministry added. The drills are set to close today.
