Heavy snowfall caused traffic restrictions on several roads of domestic and international importance in western part of Georgia on Thursday.

The Roads Department said access to the kilometre 1 to 52 section of the Gomi-Sachkhere-Chiatura-Zestaponi road in the Imereti region had been restricted for trailers and semi-trailers, with other types of vehicles permitted on the section.

Two sections of roads leading from Imereti region to Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti in the north-west were also closed for trailers and semi-trailers, with the kilometre 39 to 62 section of the Kutaisi-Tkibuli-Ambrolauri road being made off limits alongside the Sachkhere-Uzunta-Shkmeri-Zudali road.

Finally, traffic of trailers, semi-trailers and vehicles with more than 30 seats has been prohibited on the kilometre 76 to 97 section of the Khashuri-Akhaltsikhe-Vale international leading to the south-western border with Turkey. The Roads Department said traffic was open for other types of vehicles.
