Heavy snowfall and ice caused traffic restrictions on roads of international importance in mountainous regions of Georgia on Sunday.
The Roads Department said the traffic movement for trailers and semi-trailers was restricted on the Gudauri-Kobi section of the international Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi highway, with other types of vehicles permitted on the road section.
The movement of vehicles on the Gudauri-Kobi section is permitted only through the avalanche protection tunnels, the National Environmental Agency said.
The Patrol Police Department of the Interior Ministry urged citizens to drive with appropriate winter tyres due to heavy snowfall and ice in the country’s regions, as well as follow the traffic safety rules and instructions of the Police officers, the Department announced on Friday.

The company said the services operated in principal directions were subject to delays, and added “minor” setbacks were originating from causes “independent” of GR. It offered passengers full refunds to tickets on the affected services.
Road restrictions caused by Wednesday’s adverse weather remain in force on the Gudauri-Kobi stretch of the international Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi Highway connecting Georgia with Russia in the north.
