The Georgian Government has on Monday requested a “technical meeting” with the participation of representatives of the Russian occupation forces administering Georgia’s occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region and the European Union Monitoring Mission following the death of a Georgian citizen following an illegal arrest attempt by occupation forces on Monday.

The State Security Service of Georgia said the incident was “another alarming manifestation” by the occupying forces’ “criminal actions” and placed “full responsibility” on the latter.

The body said the Government would demand “with particular strictness” and “in all international formats” legal punishment of “all guilty individuals” involved in the death, as well as “immediate release” of the other Georgian national, who was illegally arrested during the same incident in the occupied territory near the village of Kirbali in central Georgia’s Gori municipality.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs on Monday said it had launched an investigation on both violations in the incident.
