Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Monday said she was “profoundly outraged” by the death of a citizen of the country following an attempt of their illegal arrest by Russian-controlled occupation forces near a village adjacent to the occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region in central Georgia.
In her social media post Zourabichvili said the “blatant attack” had “once again” revealed the “true nature of the coreligionist brother”, in reference to the Russian Government.

This blatant attack on Georgian statehood once again exposes the true nature of the ‘coreligionist brother’
She “urgently” called on the international community to “unequivocally condemn” Russia's actions that she said had “blatantly and shamelessly violated all international norms”.
The State Security Service confirmed the incident earlier on Monday, saying the citizen had died following “firearm shots” by Russian-controlled occupation forces during their attempts to illegally detain the deceased, with another Georgian national illegally arrested by them.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said it had launched an investigation into both violations that took place during the incident.
