Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili will be a “keynote speaker” at the Global Gateway Forum hosted by Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission President, in Brussels on Wednesday and Thursday, Georgia’s EU Ambassador Vakhtang Makharoblishvili said on Tuesday.
Makharoblishvili said the event would discuss the European Union’s proposal for investments in connectivity, health, education and research systems across the world.
In his press comments, the diplomat said the PM’s presence at the international event, which will bring together more than 40 high-level Government representatives from EU and partner states, as well as major financial institutions, as a keynote speaker “emphasises the role and importance that Georgia has for Europe and the bloc in the connectivity context”.
He also stressed the head of the Georgian Government had been invited to the event by the European Commission President, who will open the Forum on Wednesday under the theme "Stronger Together through Sustainable Investment”.
The Forum will showcase progress in the implementation of the Global Gateway strategy, the EU's proposal for quality, transparent investments in connectivity, health, education and research systems worldwide, the European Commission said.
Von der Leyen will host a dinner for participating leaders on the first day of the event, which will be followed by a series of discussions on the green energy transition and green hydrogen, education and research, critical raw materials and transport corridors, the Commission added, while the next day will be focused on health products manufacturing and digital infrastructure.
Garibashvili’s participation in the event comes after Georgia, Azerbaijan, Romania and Hungary signed an Agreement on the Black Sea submarine electricity cable project in Bucharest in December 2022, with the infrastructure aiming to facilitate exports of green energy.
The project will connect the South Caucasus region to Romania, allowing the export of green energy to Europe and the “strengthening of mutual resilience”.
