Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Sunday highlighted the “successful” joint energy and transport projects and initiatives with Georgia and expressed a desire to deepen cooperation.

In his comments at a joint press conference with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Aliyev said his country was interested in participating in infrastructure projects, including the construction of a new Anaklia deep sea port.

Aliyev emphasised that Azerbaijan and Georgia had “big plans” in the direction of energy, adding the prospects of the green energy corridor were also discussed between the sides.

Georgia and Azerbaijan, two brotherly nations, are working with European nations [to create the green energy corridor] [...] I am sure that very soon we will be able to make tangible results in the form of investments [into green corridor], which will strengthen the energy security of Georgia, Azerbaijan and partner countries”, the President noted.

He stressed these projects were important not only for the South Caucasus region but also for the Euro-Asian continent, adding by expanding the existing infrastructure and “developing friendship and strategic partnership”, Azerbaijan and Georgia would be able to implement the mentioned projects.
