Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Sunday said he and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili “have done and are doing everything” to strengthen the friendship and partnership between the nations.
At a joint briefing after the meeting with Garibashvili, Aliyev highlighted “very frequent” meetings between the officials of the two states that “serve to bring the countries closer”.
For centuries, our nations have been very friendly neighbours, [...] and this is important for the South Caucasus region as well”, the Azerbaijani President added.
He highlighted the “outstanding leadership” of the late presidents of Azerbaijan and Georgia, Heydar Aliyev and Eduard Shevardnadze, who had made “great efforts” to bring nations “closer together” and paved the way for the development of the two independent countries.
Azerbaijani President said he and Garibashvili continued the work of the late presidents and “have taken the countries even further”.
