A Government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday discussed the first auction of electricity production capacity initiated by the Ministry of Economy.
The Government Administration said the initiative involved approval of technical and economic research agreements with winning companies in six projects totalling 44 MW in capacity, 71 million kWh output and $26.9 million investment volume.
It said the new scheme for supporting energy production and use from renewable sources involved an auction for 300 MW of capacity and attracted interest from the private sector, with 78 applications for 943 MW of installed capacity submitted.
The construction works of 15 hydroelectric, two wind and 10 solar power plants in the country will be carried out by a total of 27 winning companies.
The Administration also said the power generation facilities, once fully operational, would produce 1.1407 billion kWh of energy annually for the country, with a total investment exceeding $400 million.

Romeo Mikautadze, the Deputy Economy Minister of Georgia, discussed procedures of auctions for the state scheme for renewable energy support in a meeting that involved investors, companies and business associations of the sector, the Ministry of Economy said on Thursday.

The Georgian Government will “gradually” sign the contracts with the companies that were declared winners of the first auction in projects for renewable energy infrastructure in July, the Economy Ministry said on Friday.
Enterprise Georgia will finance projects aiming to produce electricity using renewable energy sources, the body announced on Wednesday.

Romeo Mikautadze, the Georgian First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, on Thursday said his office had signed 60 deals with investors worth $800 million last year that were expected to add more than two billion kWh to the local energy generation annually.
Three wind and five hydroelectric powerplants are planned to be built in Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kakheti, Shida Kartli and Imereti regions of Georgia, the Administration of the Government of Georgia said on Monday. The total installed capacity of energy projects, presented at today’s Government meeting, is over 250 megawatts of installed capacity, and will total $400 million in investments.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday left for Brussels to participate in the Global Gateway Forum organised by the European Commission, the Government Administration said.
