Romeo Mikautadze, the Deputy Economy Minister of Georgia, discussed procedures of auctions for the state scheme for renewable energy support in a meeting that involved investors, companies and business associations of the sector, the Ministry of Economy said on Thursday.

Mikautadze highlighted the Government’s “ambitious” for the development of large energy projects, including initiatives for local energy resources and the construction of the Black Sea submarine infrastructure intended to connect the energy systems of the South Caucasus and the European Union.

The significance of development of energy projects in increasing energy security was also noted by the official, who said sustainable growth of the country’s energy capabilities was “of utmost importance”.

He also told those at the meeting the “great potential” of renewable energy resources domestically meant its utilisation was a “priority” of the Government's economic policy.

The Deputy Minister also thanked the United States Agency for International Development for its contribution to the development of Georgia's energy capability.
