Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Monday highlighted “important” bilateral meetings held by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
In his remarks over the visit, Darchiashvili noted the PM’s meeting with the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz by noting Germany was “one of the outstanding supporters of our European integration”.
One of the main topics was, of course, our European integration, [and] the Prime Minister reviewed the specific steps that the country has taken in terms of implementing the 12 priorities [set out by the European Commission] and the specific results that the country has today”, Darchiashvili said.
The top Georgian diplomat added the country’s European integration was also in the focus of the “important” meeting between Garibashvili and Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, and further pointed out the Government head stressed the Government had “already fulfilled the core requirements”.
Darchiashvili also focused on the Prime Minister's meeting with Derek Chollet, the Senior Policy Advisor to the United States Secretary of State, and noted the conversation reviewed the strengthening of bilateral relations and the new US Ambassador to the country.
Georgia is waiting for the new Ambassador of the United States, who will certainly bring a new impetus, and we look forward to her arrival in Georgia in order to strengthen and deepen the relations between America and Georgia”, he continued.
The top Georgian diplomat also reviewed the PM’s meeting with António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the UN, by noting the head of the global organisation emphasised “once again” the “very wise” policy of the Georgian Government to “further strengthen and consolidate peace and stability in our country and in our region”.
