Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Guram Guramishvili on Thursday presented the transport and logistics development strategy to the sector professionals at a meeting organised by the Council of Investors, an independent advisory body under the Prime Minister of Georgia.

In the meeting held at the Tbilisi office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the official stressed the Government had developed the 2023-2030 strategy and action plan for transport and logistics following public discussions and consultations with profile businesses, the Economy Ministry said.

He stressed the document “clearly reflected” the sector’s significance and the Government's plans to turn the country into a “regional transit and logistics hub” in the future. Guramishvili also highlighted the necessity of updated services and renovation of infrastructure in the sector, as well as the development of more efficient supply chain management and raising the qualification of the workforce to achieve the goal.

He particularly focused on the importance of raising international awareness about Georgia as a transit corridor and said the domestic authorities were “actively cooperating” with the European Union and the countries of the South Caucasus region to attract more cargo to the Middle Corridor, which is the shortest land route between China and Europe.

The Deputy Minister also briefed the participants of the meeting on the improvement of transport links on the Black Sea, the digitisation of port services and the implementation of the Anaklia deep-sea port project in Georgia’s northwest.
