The rugby team of the Georgian Defence Forces took fifth place at the World Military Championship in France, the Ministry of Defence of Georgia said on Monday.
The Ministry said the squad had “convincingly” defeated their Australian counterparts 55-16 in the final match that involved fixtures with eight teams.
The Georgian squad managed to win four games out of five at the tournament, losing one to Great Britain.
The Embassy of France in Georgia congratulated the Georgian and French teams with winning titles at the competition.
The Ministry said members of the squad had gone through “tactical and technical drills” throughout the year in preparation for the competition.
The World Military Rugby Championship was hosted in France for the fourth time and ran between August 16-September 10 with the involvement of 12 teams.
