The Investigative Service of Georgia’s Finance Ministry has found 18 pharmacies to be selling psychoactive drugs illegally in Tbilisi and other regions of Georgia, the state body said on Wednesday.

The body said its investigation had found none of the pharmacies had proper permits to sell the types of drugs and were selling various types of medications without prescriptions.

It also said 33 individuals had been charged for "illegal entrepreneurial activities" in the case, and added police officers had seized a “large quantity” of psychoactive drugs from the pharmacies.

The crime is punishable by one to three years in prison.
