Temur Mgebrishvili, the Head of the Emergency Management Service on Sunday said intensive works were actively proceeding in the disaster area in the country’s western Shovi resort, following the landslide that killed at least 24 people on August 3.
In his comments to the media, Mgebrishvili noted that on the 11th day of the search and rescue operations, 60 percent of the landslide area had been searched, and added the operation continued at 18 locations adjacent to the disaster zone.
He said the search operation for nine persons was still ongoing, while 24 bodies had already been recovered.
Mgebrishvili thanked the Georgia Red Cross Society for regulating the involvement of volunteers in the disaster relief efforts, who mainly assisted in logistic matters.
