Consequential processes taking place in Shovi following landslide “not dangerous at this stage” - National Environmental Agency

The National Environmental Agency of Georgia on Saturday said the expected, consequential processes were taking place in the country’s western Shovi resort, following the landslide that killed at least 24 people on August 3 and noted the mentioned processes were “not dangerous at this stage”.

The Agency said a rockfall was reported in the Buba riverbed in the disaster area, which was expected after such a “large-scale” natural disaster.

Earlier today, the Interior Ministry announced that the search area in the disaster zone was expanded and search operations continued actively with the involvement of rescue boats, police units, firefighters and rescuers, as well as a group of cynologists. 

The Ministry added that drones and special equipment were also involved in the search operation for nine people in the disaster area.
