Nurse charged with falsifying medical papers in 2021 death of footballer

The Head Nurse of the Tbilisi-based Central University Clinic has been charged with falsifying medical documentation of a 20-year-old footballer who died from Covid-19 in September 2021, following a treatment in the hospital.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia announced the charge on Monday, explaining the offender had signed patient papers in place of nurses on actual duty, fraudulently entering his credentials in details on doctors who had treated Vakhtang Charkviani, the patient in question.

Following the forgery, the head nurse placed the documents in the patient’s medical history, the Office added, with the mishandling discovered in September 2021, after the medical history was closed.

The nurse has been charged with articles concerning falsification and use of fraudulent medical documents.

Charkviani, a graduate of the Dinamo Tbilisi club academy and player for Wit Georgia 2 club, died in the Clinic following treatment. He also had two appearances for Georgia’s Under-17 national team.
