Maia Omiadze, the Head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration, on Monday said the flow of tourist visits in the country had increased by 90 percent compared to the pre-pandemic year of 2019.

The Georgian National Tourism Administration cited Omiadze as saying about 3 million international travellers visited Georgia before the summer tourist season reached its peak.

She also noted the Administration anticipated a large number of visitors during the season and expected "quite impressive" figures from the third quarter.

The growth in visitor flows was facilitated by increased frequency of flights and direct links to European cities, Omiadze said, as well as ongoing promotion initiatives in target markets of Europe and the Persian Gulf.

The GNTA released data on foreign visitors between January and June, which showed 2,860,117 foreign visitors in first and second quarters, or a 74 percent increase on pre-pandemic levels. Compared to the same period in 2022 the increase was 75.9 percent.

The figures also showed 1.930.483 international tourist visits over the past six months - a 90.8 percent increase over the figures from 2019 and a 59.6 percent increase over 2022.
