Locals of three villages of eastern Georgia's Kakheti region will enjoy round-the-clock supply of clean water starting in the first half of this year thanks to a ₾7 million ($2.65mln) project being implemented in the locality, the United Water Supply Company of Georgia said on Tuesday.

The project for renovating the water supply infrastructure in the villages of Nukriani, Zemo Magharo and Zemo Bodbe, located in Sighnaghi municipality, are underway with 30 percent of the work completed, the company said.

Principal works include setting up of the main pipeline and supply network, and rehabilitating the local pumping station and reservoir.

The works are part of a ₾40 million ($15.13mln) project addressing supply in 16 villages of the municipality. About 30,000 locals of the area will have 24-hour water supply provided to them by 2024.

Challenges with round-the-clock water supply in countryside locations have been a long-standing issue across Georgia, with Government projects launched over the years to expand 24-hour water delivery to residents in different parts of the country.
