Locals of three villages in eastern Georgia's Kakheti region will receive 24-hour water supply thanks to a ₾17 million ($6,428,346) project in the locality, the United Water Supply Company of Georgia said on Thursday.

Akhasheni, Zegaani and Mukuzani, located in Gurjaani municipality, will receive upgrades to their water supply infrastructure this year through the initiative funded from the state budget, the company said.

The works, to be completed in two stages, involve setting up the main pipeline and supply network, and rehabilitating a local pumping station and reservoir.

The works are part of a ₾40 million ($15.13mln) project addressing supply in 16 villages of the municipality. About 30,000 locals of the area will have 24-hour water supply provided to them by 2024.

Challenges with round-the-clock water supply in countryside locations have been a long-standing issue across Georgia, with Government projects launched over the years to expand round-the-clock water delivery to residents in different parts of the country.
