Georgian FM hosts CoE SecGen at informal meeting discussing Council’s support

Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Saturday hosted Marija Pejčinović Burić, the Council of Europe’s Secretary General, in an informal meeting in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, discussing the CoE’s support to the country.
Keeping the issue of Georgia at a high political level in the Council was positively assessed at the meeting, with the sides highlighting the organisation’s role in supporting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the peaceful resolution of the conflict and restoration of trust between communities divided by the conflicts.
The important contribution of the CoE to the process of implementing institutional and democratic reforms in Georgia within the action plan of the Council was also emphasised, the Foreign Ministry said.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Marija Pejčinović Burić, the Council of Europe’s Secretary General, on Saturday discussed the existing cooperation, as well as the significance of the CoE’s support to Georgia.
The projects “successfully implemented” within the framework of the Council of Europe’s 2020-2023 Action Plan for Georgia were discussed on Friday in a meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Marija Pejčinović Burić, the CoE Secretary General.
Marija Pejčinović Burić, the Council of Europe’s Secretary General, on Friday visited central Georgia’s village of Odzisi, which separates the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region from the rest of the country, as part of her official visit to Georgia.
The Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić on Tuesday said Georgia had several conditions to fulfil, upon which she hoped the country would be granted the European Union membership candidate status.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Justice Minister Rati Bregadze on Saturday held meetings with Marija Pejčinović Burić, the Council of Europe’s Secretary General, discussing fruitful cooperation and prospects for further deepening relations.
