The projects “successfully implemented” within the framework of the Council of Europe’s 2020-2023 Action Plan for Georgia were discussed on Friday in a meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Marija Pejčinović Burić, the CoE Secretary General.
Coming on Pejčinović Burić’s visit to Georgia, the meeting saw Darchiashvili thank the official for keeping the issue of Georgia “high on the agenda” of the Council of Europe, and for her “firm” support in the process of democratic reforms in the country, the Georgian foreign office said.
"In the process of peaceful resolution of the Russia-Georgia conflict, the support of the Council of Europe for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia cannot be overestimated", Darchiashvili said at a joint press briefing with Pejčinović Burić.

The foreign office also said “special attention” in the meeting was focused on the Secretary General’s consolidated reports on Conflict in Georgia, adopted twice a year and involving detailed description of the situation in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia.
The FM “highly appraised” the Secretary General's annual reports, stressing the importance of keeping the occupation of Georgian territories on the agenda of the CoE.
The Ministry also said the parties also highlighted projects contributing to strengthening the “CoE values” of human rights, rule of law and democracy in the country.
