The Georgian Government's coordination with its international partners on enforcement of financial sanctions imposed against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine was discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and sanctions officials from the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Darchiashvili welcomed the visit of David O’Sullivan, the EU Sanctions Envoy, James O'Brien, the Head of the Office of Sanctions Coordination in the Biden administration, and Kumar Iyer, the Director General for Economics, Science and Technology at the UK Foreign Office and emphasised its importance.
The parties said the visit would contribute to helping Georgia engage in a closer cooperation with the special representatives' offices, a partnership for which the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the country's representatives had indicated openness in talks.

The Ministry said the Georgian side “reaffirmed” to the EU, US and UK counterparts that domestic services were prepared to uphold the sanctions, the pledge it noted had been made during visits by special missions that were introduced to the situation on the ground in the country. It added the same position had been "repeatedly noted" in reports prepared by its partners.
The visiting officials “positively assessed” the ongoing partnership with Georgia in the execution of the financial penalties, and expressed their willingness to "continue active discussions", it also said.
The meeting also covered the issue of Georgia’s integration into the EU, with Darchiashvili confirming “firm dedication” of both the Government and citizens to the outcome, and the former's implementation of reforms necessary for membership.
