The steps taken by Georgia for the implementation of the international financial sanctions imposed against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine and prevention of their circumvention were discussed by Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili and sanctions officials from the European Union and the United States.
Khutsishvili thanked David O’Sullivan, the EU Sanctions Envoy and James O'Brien, the Head of the Office of Sanctions Coordination in the Biden administration, for their “close cooperation” and technical assistance for the “proper administration” of international sanctions, as well as for the “positive assessment” of the country’s efforts in this regard.
The importance of coordinated work with allies and partners to ensure the enforcement of the sanctions was also emphasised by the officials, with the Georgian side briefing the sanctions officials on the measures implemented by the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance in this direction.
It was noted that Georgia would continue to “work closely” with its partners to support the international community in that respect.
After the meeting, Khutsishvili said Georgia “was actively cooperating” with both the American side and the EU representation, and pledged the country would continue this cooperation in the future too, adding the measures implemented by the Revenue Service had been praised by the officials.
