Georgian Government’s coordinated work with the European Union and the international community to enforce the financial sanctions imposed against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine was discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and sanctions officials from the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States.
In his meeting with David O’Sullivan, the EU Sanctions Envoy, James O'Brien, the Head of the Office of Sanctions Coordination in the Biden administration, and Kumar Iyer, the Director General for Economics, Science and Technology at the UK Foreign Office, Garibashvili welcomed their visit and emphasised its importance.
The Government Administration said the significance of the visit was noted in light of the Georgian Government’s “repeated” confirmation of desire for a “close cooperation” on the matter with the Office of the Special Envoy in meetings involving Georgian officials in Brussels.
In Tuesday’s meeting, the sides noted the “effective” work of relevant Georgian services to prevent evasion of the sanctions, and the “successful” cooperation between Georgia on the one hand and the EU and the US on the other.
They also highlighted efforts made by the Georgian Government had been “positively” assessed by the international community, including the US State Department.
The officials also noted Georgia's “firm support” of Ukraine in political and humanitarian directions.
