The Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia on Sunday stated the country “fully complied with” the international sanctions imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine since its establishment, and all customs procedures “have been strictly monitored”.

The Service said it was responding to “one more misinformation” spread by the domestic opposition-minded TV Pirveli channel, that allegedly the electronic equipment was passing through the Larsi customs checkpoint to Russia and was being used by the latter against Ukraine.

The export of household electrical appliances is permitted by the regulations of the European Union if the retail value of the goods does not exceed €750, the body clarified in its statement, adding any customs operations, including exports and re-exports to Russia by the companies registered in Georgia, were subject to special customs control.

If a company or product is on the sanctions list, it will not be allowed to proceed”, the Service said and added that issuing the certificate of origin of goods was also subject to additional verification to ensure that the country’s territory would not be used for evading the imposed sanctions.

The Revenue Service said all partner agencies and international organisations were being informed about the customs control procedures, and once again urged everyone to “refrain from disseminating unsubstantiated and harmful information regarding cargo control in the country”.
