Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's Committee on Human Rights, on Thursday said the Government was “committed” to preventing the possibility of use of the country’s territory for circumvention of the international sanctions imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

Sarjveladze said the Government was “clearly and meticulously” fulfilling related issues in international cooperation formats.

From the beginning, Georgia expressed a clear stance that it would not be able to deal with sanctions against Russia independently and on its own, but [also that] it will not be an obstacle in relation to international sanctions”, he said.

The Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia on Wednesday said re-export of vehicles imported from the United States and the European Union member countries to Russia and Belarus from Georgia would be prohibited as part of the international sanctions.

The restrictions on vehicles imported from the US entered force on August 1, while cars imported from the EU will come under the limitation starting on September 26.

The body said the decision had been taken in line with the 11th package of sanctions against Russia, adopted by the EU in June.
