The Georgian Government on Tuesday announced it would set up a working group composed of deputy ministers that would draft amendments in the “shortest terms possible” to improve current demographic trends in the country.
The decision came following a meeting of the Council for Demographic Issues of Georgia, chaired by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, the Government Administration said.
Amendments offered by the working group will be focused on “policies for strengthening the family” and formulate specific recommendations that will be reflected in state-funded programmes to improve existing demographic trends in the country, the press office noted.
The meeting also reviewed the main goals of demographic development and the “best and relevant practices and international experience”.
The officials also discussed existing healthcare, social, employment, resettlement and migration initiatives, also designed to address demographic issues.
